It all started when I was at Goodwill last week and I saw a Wall-E shirt. I noticed it was too small for my son and my first thought was, I could use the graphics to perhaps make a hooded and pocketed shirt for my son (which I have done- shown below with a Phineas and Ferb shirt).
Well as I contemplated the use of the shirt, I also saw a Star Wars shirt. Right size for my son but the wrong season so cutting would be of use. Why just a plain t-shirt though? My thought wheels were turning. That's when I thought what a great wallet it would be for any boy!
Yesterday, I took a pre-existing wallet I had as an idea. It was kind of like a billfold with some room for cards. How to add cards though? I wasn't sure and I came to realize I did go about it ALL wrong but it gave me ideas for my next one. I had a plan (sort of)! I would cut out my shapes in my fabric in my sizes conjured in my head and without a real plan I started sewing.
I ran across problems right away because my serger needle broke and my sewing machine seems to be bogged by layers of fabric. Uh, not so cool. So I kept going (really?). I should have also pinned my wallet better, because, now if my son wants to use his beta tester wallet, his cards will also be at a slant. Hrmmmm. Can you say, hand made? Anyways, I don't think it was a complete failure, I know next time I should have a plan and that next time I shouldn't layer so much and next time I need to pin ALL of the way around when I stitch my sides.
Here's the front of the wallet. I should have cut the fabric so that I could have placed the strap in the center WITHOUT cutting off the Star Wars lettering. I had an awesome topstitch job, doncha think? (NOT!)
Here is the inside (don't cringe!)

The concept wasn't all bad, and I do love the binding, but I am glad no one can really see the inside just by looking at the outside.
And here is Arthur with the wallet which he does LOVE. That's what counts right? Happy customers? He is not a fan of the camera so this is what I got taking a picture of him with his wallet.
Maybe something here inspired you (and maybe you have a better way of making a wallet???) I think I should have just stuck with making it a plain billfold. What boy has credit cards? LOL.
I'm sure Arthur will get a lot of enjoyment out of it! A very creative use of a shirt!
